You don’t need what Mr Telesales is selling, but you can’t just hang up when he respectfully asks for a few minutes as you understand the pitch is his bread and butter. But then, you’ll have to convince him you don’t want it.

Deal with it. Mr Telesales focuses on weaknesses, so if he detects “softness” on your part, he will latch on, especially if you cannot say no. It is good to think about his livelihood but who is thinking about yours ? So thank him and politely tell him you don’t need the service or product, then hang up. Be assertive and respectful as the same time.
